Some months ago I came across an incredible man playing what I thought at the time was an Appalachian hammer dulcimer. I wasn’t educated enough at the time to know the difference between an Appalachian dulcimer and a cymbalom. I thnk, for me, the difference is more cultural than anything. The dulcimer is an Applachian dialect and the cymbalom is more Easter European.
Anyway, a gentleman named Michael Masley does things with a dulcimer that no one I know would have ever imagined. The music is whimsical, mesmerizing almost to the point of being hypnotic.
Filmaker Martin Yernazian is in the final phases of putting this project out for the world to see. After watching Michael create his music, the thought of adding his story and music together in a feature-length film is both inspiring and, I am sure for him, daunting.
