Finally Pen to Paper..

Finally Pen to Paper..

Those who know me at all, know I’ve always had a strong desire to write.  It was never poetry or prose, but regardless of what I wanted to tackle, first through high school and then college I could do quite well with the written word.

For about the last twenty-five years friends on and off have asked why I don’t write more.  My wife Susan has been my most vocal proponent.  So it is to her great delight that I have spent a good bit of time these past two weeks, just writing.

I’ve always read that writers; good, bad, or other write everyday.  Some made it sound as if they were getting their gums scraped.  I can honestly say that when I made my schedule to set aside time each day I was more than a little apprehensive about what would happen.

Just this week alone I’ve cranked out almost thirty pages of a new historical fiction novel that I am truly enjoying bringing to life.  I need to dig out my Kate Turabien as I’m sure I’ve forgotten as much proper sentence structure and comma use as I have old license plate numbers.

That said, this process has been wonderful, and very enjoyable.  I’ve discovered that I need to get some facts if this is going to be “historical”.  There have been so many tremendous writers over time who have been able to move people with their imagination, I am hoping that I can do some of the same.

I’ve also been working on two short stories that I hope to have completed and entered into a very of the competitions coming up in November and December.  Especially the Tennesse Williams contest.  Not just for the money, ok, the moeny would be nice, but as a racer, what better way to judge where you stand in the competitive field than jumping in with hundreds or thousands of those of like mind.

I’m sure I will need to check my ego before the process is over.

Happy Weekend everyone.
